About Bob Bruns

Bob Bruns was raised in Raleigh, NC. After graduating from Western Carolina University, Bob pursued a career in the credit union industry. At the age of 27, Bob became the CEO of Charlotte Metro Credit Union (now Skyla Credit Union). With Bob's visionary leadership, the credit union grew from $5 million in assets to over $1 billion. His 40-year commitment helped countless Charlottean's and small businesses. Bob has recently retired and looks forward to continuing to give back to the people of Charlotte through the North Carolina Senate.

Helping the community

Bob served as CEO for Charlotte Metro Credit Union (now Skyla Credit Union), an organization that focuses on the financial needs of its members, particularly the underserved.

Bob played a crucial role in establishing a branch in West Charlotte, filling a void that had persisted for more than 15 years.

Bob was an original sponsor of Charlotte's Juneteenth Festival that still continues today. Bob began a charitable foundation at the credit union, that benefits the local community, and currently serves on the NC/SC Credit Union Foundation, to name a few.

Bob has had the opportunity to interact with numerous politicians, ranging from those in the NC government to members of the US Congress. Through his advocacy for credit unions, Bob has gained a deep understanding of the significance of bipartisan collaboration, emphasizing the need to work cooperatively across party lines to attain shared successes.
